Helping Kids Start the School Year Warm

Centre Warm Kids is a community-driven effort to help ensure children throughout Centre County have the winter clothing they need before school begins.

Each spring, families clean closets and discover coats, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves their children have outgrown. Rather than letting those items go unused, we collect them, organize them during the summer, and distribute them to local children before the first cold mornings of the school year.

What We’re Collecting

Winter coats (infant through teen)
Boots and sturdy shoes
Hats, gloves and mittens
Scarves and cold-weather accessories

How It Works

Our process is simple and community-driven.

Spring: Families donate winter clothing children have outgrown.
Summer: Volunteers inspect, sort, clean, and organize donations.
Late Summer: Families request clothing through local partners.
Before School: Children receive warm clothing before temperatures begin to drop.

What We Need Right Now

Winter clothing in clean, gently used condition.
Storage space in Centre County for seasonal collections.
Volunteers to sort, organize, and distribute donations.
Community partners including schools, churches, civic groups, and local businesses.
